Contract Negotiations in Difficult Fiscal Times
The unfortunate reality is that the state’s fiscal difficulties will persist for at least for the remainder of this year and well into Fiscal 2011. During that time, many of us will be negotiating with our unions.
- How can we successfully negotiate in difficult fiscal times?
- What strategies exist to reach agreements we can support financially?
- How can we preserve positive relationships with all parties?
- What creative solutions have other municipalities used successfully?
Please join us on November 5 as we welcome Stephen McGoldrick, Deputy Director of the Edward Collins Center for Public Management to discuss these topics. Mr. McGoldrick’s primaryresponsibility at the Center is developing programs and providing consulting services within the Productivity and Government Services areas. Prior to joining the Collins Center, he worked for the Metropolitan Area Planning Council where he provided technical assistance to local governments on management, organizational and governance issues. Mr. McGoldrick served as chief of staff to the Chelsea receiver and subsequently as the Commonwealth’s transition officer in Chelsea. He has also been a technical advisor to the Massachusetts Municipal Association. We’re pleased that Mr. McGoldrick will be sharing his expertise with us.
The Edward Collins Center for Public Management is part of the McCormack Graduate School of Policy Studies at UMass Boston. The Center is dedicated to helping governments work better. The Collins Center serves all levels of government concentrating on the people, performance and productivity of government.
