We have just learned that Rep. Ruth Balser has filed five proposed
amendments to the House Budget designed to raise money for various public
education and local aid uses. These amendments are numbered below. The
increase of 1 cent on the sales tax more than covers the cost of restoring
local aid and special education circuit breaker. The Telecom and local
option meals/hotels give municipalities additional revenue opportunities.
#698 – Local Option Meals & Hotels
#699 – Raise Sales tax by 1 cent.
#700 – Fully Fund Special Ed Circuit Breaker
#701 – Repeal Telecom Exemption
#702 – Restore Local Aid to FY09 (pre-9c Cut) level
Your own legislators have all next week to sign on, co-sponsor, or join in
other amendments. We urge you to speak directly to your legislators to
support those that you support.
